New, more secure FRSC number plates and driver's licences - GetItDone

From 8 June 2025, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) began issuing upgraded number plates and driver’s licences with enhanced security features, alongside a revision of production fees. The FRSC said the changes were driven by the new security features and the rising cost of production.

The new fees

Among the revised charges, motorcycle number plates now cost ₦12,000 (standard), with government standard motorcycle plates at ₦20,000 and fancy plates at ₦50,000. Fees for private and commercial vehicle plates and for driver’s licences were also adjusted upward.

What it means for you

If you are registering a new vehicle, replacing plates, or renewing a licence, budget for the updated fees. The upside: the new documents are harder to fake, which means fewer disputes at checkpoints when your papers are genuine and government-issued.
